(NISSAN'S GLOBAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS RECEIVES ISO14001 CERTIFICATION)
- Nissan is first Japanese automaker ISO14001 certified at domestic and global level -

TOKYO [Tue. 25th March, 2008]
Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. announced that its product development process-including global operations-has received ISO14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems. The certification was conferred by the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI), a certification body of ISO14001 on March 7, 2008.

The certification represents a significant first for Nissan, as the only Japanese automaker to receive ISO14001, to encompass product development for its domestic and global operations. Nissan first received ISO14001 certification for its product development process in 1998, although the scope was limited only to Japan.

The Nissan Green Program 2010 mid-term environmental plan has set clear objectives for the company to achieve, in terms of its global CO2 management system, in order to establish a consistent and effective global process built on the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action)principal of environment management.

The global scope of Nissan’s Product Development Process has been expanded to include:
Defined action plans to achieve the objectives set under the NGP2010 - reducing CO2 emissions, cleaner emissions and accelerating recycling efforts.
Inclusion of CO2 management to the internal management performance indicators to become QCT·C. Previously, the indicators QCT stood for quality, cost and time.
Dedicated team and centralized management to monitor and implement its global product development process.
As a “Sincere Eco-Innovator”, Nissan is actively developing new technologies, products and services to deliver real-world reductions in CO2 emissions, and lead to a sustainable mobile society.
