Hyundai’s C-segment family car, the European designed and built i30, last month passed cumulative sales of 500.000 units worldwide. This landmark figure – which includes over 200.000 units from the European market – is testament to the high quality and broad appeal of the versatile i30, which has cemented its position as a leading contender in its segment.
The i30, in hatchback and wagon forms, has dominated Hyundai’s European sales charts since its launch in the summer of 2007, when it was initially imported from the Ulsan plant in Korea. Since the opening of company’s first European plant, in Nošovice, Czech Republic, in November 2008, Hyundai has sold over 150.000 European-built i30s, including 95.000 examples during 2009.
“As the i30 approaches its third birthday we do not expect its popularity to diminish, especially now that the upgraded model, the i30u, is going on sale across Europe,” commented Allan Rushforth, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Europe. “This new vehicle offers a wide range of new features and benefits, including the ground-breaking Triple5 customer support package.”
Triple5 provides i30u owners with a five-year, bumper-to-bumper warranty, five years’ roadside assistance, and a five-year vehicle health-check plan.
Hyundai’s achievement with sales of its i30 is of an epic scale. For example, if all the i30 models sold so far were lined up bumper to bumper, they would cover twice the distance between Nošovice, where the i30 is manufactured, and Geneva, where the car was first unveiled in 2007. Stacked on top of one another, the 500.000 i30s would create a tower 154 times the height of Europe’s highest mountain, Mount Blanc.
i30 tops customer satisfaction and reliability survey
Meanwhile, the Hyundai i30 has been named the most satisfying car to own in a survey completed by over 23.000 drivers. The popular C-segment family hatchback took number one spot in Driver Power Top 100; a definitive poll on car reliability and satisfaction compiled by Auto Express, the UK’s best-selling weekly motoring magazine. This was the first time that a vehicle from a Korean manufacturer has topped the survey. The i30 in fact beat all other models on sale, including a host of prestige names and last year’s winner, the Jaguar XF.
